With Easter fast approaching, we’d like to give a massive shout out to our Camps International UK team for their fundraising efforts over the past couple of months.
Meat Free for the Amazon
In January, Laura N kicked off this year’s fundraising activities by launching a staff Veganuary challenge. Lots of people had fun taking part and there was great feedback, with many saying that it’s made them more conscious of what they eat and where their food comes from. Some of us enjoyed it so much that we are now fully plant based and loving life! The challenge managed to raise £166.75 through raffle tickets, donations and prize draws.
We’ve decided that the proceeds of this will go towards our Amazon reforestation projects in Ecuador. The Amazon is the world’s largest rainforest that’s home to more than 10% of all species on Earth. Yet, it’s been facing severe deforestation problems for several decades and animal agriculture is responsible for up to 91% of its destruction.
This donation will enable us to restore over 15 square metres of damaged rainforest.
In March, Immi and Adela organised a pancake day, offering a delicious selection inspired by our global team. This raised £66.94 which will now go towards building a community kitchen and canteen in Escalani, Peru. This community is working hard to develop community-based rural tourism. They have houses where some tourists come to stay and enjoy spectacular views of lake Titicaca. We are supporting the community by building a restaurant so they can receive visitors and obtain income in addition to their other activities, all with the aim of improving living conditions.
