Marungu school was established in 2014 and is the only public secondary school within the region, servicing more than 10,000 people. As with many schools in the Tsavo region, lack of funding has prevented the expansion or maintenance of the school infrastructure.

With more than 4,000 students attending, there are only eight classrooms and seven teachers.
